Fernando Alvim

Fernando Gui de São-Payo de Sousa e Alvim (Cascais, November 6, 1934 - Lisbon, February 27, 2015) was a Portuguese guitarist and arranger. He worked in partnership with António Chainho.
Eighth of thirteen sons and daughters of João da Silva Neves de Sousa and Alvim (Vila Nova de Ourém, Seiça, Casa de Seiça, September 24, 1897 - Lisbon, Prazeres, May 21, 1965)
At the age of 18, he took his first guitar lessons with professor Duarte Costa. At the age of 24, he took a course with guitarist Emílio Pujol.
He accompanied the fado singers Vicente da Câmara, Frei Hermano da Câmara and Teresa Tarouca, among others. He met Carlos Paredes and in 1959 they formed a partnership that lasted 24 years. He founded the Fernando Alvim Guitar Group in 1969 and recorded an album with João Maria Tudela.
In 1998, she participated in the album "A Guitarra e Outras Mulheres" by António Chainho.
The CD "Nas Veias de Uma Guitarra – Tributo a Fernando Alvim", in conjunction with Ricardo Parreira, was released in 2007.
In September 2011, a double CD of fados and songs composed by him throughout his long career was released, named by Camané as «Os Fados e as Canções do Alvim»
He was married to Maria do Rosário Sande Leitão.
