The Lemon Pipers – Green Tambourine

Fantastic popsike that is criminally overlooked for some reason. Shaking my head

I mean, it's pretty much always been about Through With You, which I bet many people may still not have discovered. Spread the word!

A side mostly forgettable with exception of Green Tambourine. B is a pretty solid jam. COOL.

Surprisingly excellent sound. Flat, clean. I really recommend this pressing and of course the album itself is joyfully awesome.

Does anyone have a mono copy with catalog number bdm 5009. My two mono copies say bdm 1009

I found "GREEN TAMBOURINE" (1968) by THE LEMON PIPERS in a cut-out bin in the early 1970's for $2.00 or less back when LP's listed for $4.98 to $5.98 . I bought the STEREO version of this album ( I am a STEREOPHILE !) and my favorite song is " GREEN TAMBOURINE ". This LP also contains the '45' of "RICE IS NICE" . The song "GREEN TAMBOURINE" is a great example of the late 1960's psychedelic rock songs . THE LEMON PIPERS recorded only two (2) LP's : "GREEN TAMBOURINE" (1968) and 'JUNGLE MARMALADE" (1968) .

A mixed bag of self-conscious bubble-pop psych & awesome heavy psych.
The title track ranks as a psych classic – one of the single most engaging exercises in psychedelia without the controlled substances.
Paul Leka’s exceptional production, the excellent choruses & harmonies
& the competent & imaginative musicianship add to its appeal.
All up pretty cool & far out underrated second tier 60’s psych.

This is a very underrated and brilliant album. The last two songs especially, I wish they weren't forced into bubblegum pop and made more prog and hard rock songs like those. That being said though, the bubblegum pop songs are still really great. Rice Is Nice, Green Tambourine, Rainbow Tree, Ask Me If I Care & The Shoemaker of Leatherwear Square are really nice.

Get past the first bubblegum song and the rest of the album, particularly side B, you have a very good album.
