Listening to this fantastic album both in sound and music. Sounds like U2 meets Joy Divison...LOL...which I love. This was in heavy rotation for me in 1988 and to this day has not worn off....just a fantastic record.

Referencing The Mission - Children: The gatefold sleeve is lovely, and the music is slightly patchy (as noted by others), with "Tower of Strength" being a definite highlight in what feels like a slightly rushed follow-up to "God's Own Medicine". They were music press darlings of '86 - '88, with reports of Wayne Hussey's alcohol consumption featuring as much as the music.

The placing of "Tower of Strength" as the last track on Side A of the vinyl was definitely a mis-judgement by whoever sequenced the album. As the song builds (and boy does it build!), the grooves get ever closer to the label and the distortion starts to creep in. Townhouse did the best they could with this - it's just a limitation of 33rpm vinyl that the final track is going be sonically pants (with a few exceptions over the years, of course).

The vinyl pressing didn't include "Fabienne" which was on the first issue CD, although the song cropped up on the B side of the "Tower of Strength" single and is pretty good. I would have quite happily traded one of the weaker songs on the album for "Fabienne".

Track 4 on this CD, Heaven on Earth, seems to be a loosener for the mammoth Tower of Strength. The latter which is well constructed and while a little slow to get going, does so nicely in the end. A much more acoustic sounding CD in comparison with Gods Own Medicine and The First Chapter. Nothing wrong with the opening three tracks, with very little to choose between them. Shamera Kye is hardly a song at 34 seconds, but would make a nice opener or closing track. The second half of the CD slows down quite a bit with the exception of the closer Hymn(For America). A disc of many mixed feelings.

My preffered order is as follows: 3; 2; 1; 6; 5; 12; 13; 11; 8; 4; 7; 10; 9.
