well, I would say this is not a DJ mix, more like a compilation with no pause between tracks.
The effects used here are dull as hell, some of the tracks are just "fillers" and aged really badly.
The mix has no direction to go through, Carl just threw what he had at that time.
5,5/10 -
This is definitely not a masterpiece in mixing as others have mentioned. But I do think it is still a very nice compilation of tracks that I enjoyed listening to a lot in the past. So yes, if you a nice crossover of (detroit) techno from that era you are going to enjoy it!

By the way, i dont know why this appears under his album releases, as it is not soulely his music on here, more like a compilation, no ?

This is the worst mix I've ever heard by a famous techno producer. He uses DJ mixer effects in an attempt to cover up his lack of mixing skills. I don't know if he has gotten better since then, but this one here is pretty darn bad. Unless if your a die hard Carl Craig fan, I'd say stay away. The other CDs in this series aren't as bad, the Stacy Pullen one is top notch.

Edited 12 years agoThe underlying problem with this compilation is that there are way too many sounds and moods being bundled together. The tracks themselves are groovy, funky, and energetic, but they don't really fit together. At times it tries to get too cute and crazy and this ultimately doesn't work out too well.

Edited 23 years agoThis is a mix CD with a rather interesting twist - none of the tunes are actually mixed at all, instaed Carl Craig focuses on studio magic to give one long constant stream of supurb house and techno form across europe and America, with a particular emphasis on the unmistakable dutch house sound. Some of his tricks include major filtering of tune, kill switches, autopan, delay and live editing of the tunes. The vinyl is of fantastic quality, full of variety (no boring beats after beats tunes. At the end you are treated to a tune called "DJ Kicks, the track", which is Carl Craigs remix of every single tune on the CD, he takes a bit of each here and there to make a brand new track. If you are into long mixes etc, this might not be your cup of tea, but if you are open inded enough to experience a new form of "Mixing", you'll love it. 8/10.
