My copy sounds ok (a few pops and crackles) apart from New Age which has extremely loud crackle all the way through that ruins the song. Other people are saying they have no surface noise so I guess I just got a bad copy.
-
Edited one year agoGreat Album... mine is flat, tracks perfect, surface noise is next to nil...Nice sound, not getting much sibilance. The treble forward has been something of a norm for VU releases, in some part due to VU's style, and is part of their raw sound IMO. My copy, on my set up sounds very nice, full, and very enjoyable to my subjective ear.

Edited one year agoFirst two tracks of side one had insane sibilants when I played it with one of my moving coil cartridges. Tried playing it on another and that went much better. Still, the presentation was very treble forward. Lacked some space and warmth.

Edited one year agoThis 2020 pressing sounds great! Very happy with it. Heavy, flat, flawless vinyl. Not even a hint of surface noise. Dead silent between tracks! Comes with a white polylined sleeve which is always a plus. A classic VU album!
-
Edited one year agoJust got this. It looks identical to this version but includes the full lenght versions of Sweet Jane, Rock And Roll and New Age, despite being stated on the back cover and label that the short versions are included. Maybe there is a new 2022 repress?
-
Edited one year agoBrilliant sound, probably an pretty good representation of the master, including the hints of sibilance, which seem to be the case with these bright sounding albums like marquee moon.
Pressing is very high quality and the price is looooow.

Edited 5 months agoWow, what an amazing sounding reissue, super crisp and balanced remaster, cut hot. So much clarity.
Nice heavyweight vinyl is super clean with no pressing errors and dead silent between tracks.
My second favorite Velvet record. Recommended. -
Edited one year agoAn absolutely gorgeous sounding record, I wanted to track down an original but this will do for now, and honestly might sound better than a first press. Silent vinyl, no ticks or crackle, and great dynamic range, everything given plenty of room to really pop. My only complaint would be that it maybe sounds a little bright or not as bass heavy, but perhaps the album has always sounded that way.

Edited one year agoSame matrix numbers as the 2017 Ltd. Edition Gold Reissue, and this one's on 180 gram vinyl. It also boasts the unabridged version of Sweet Jane. As far as provenance goes, I have to believe it's a digital remaster, though I'd love to be wrong. Made in sticker on the back of my copy. Paid 28 CDN for it new.
