There's a reason why Dick Latvala loved 1973 live Dead, David Lemieux notes in his essay included with these discs. It was the six-member, one-drummer streamlined Dead playing long shows, balancing Weir- and Garcia-led songs, shorter and longer jams, and almost always structuring the second set around "Dark Star," "The Other One" or both. In that last regard, 9/8/73 is an odd outlier -- it has no second set "Dark Star," no lengthy psychedelic, jazzy exploration. Still, Dick Latvala made sure to turn David Lemieux on to 9/8/73 specifically, "intent," as Lemieux continues in his essay, "on pointing out that despite the absence of the Big Two from 1973, every song, every solo, every moment was out-of-this-world excellent...9/8/73 was one of the best-played shows from one of the Dead's best years." I heartily agree. A masterpiece of a concert. -
Can anyone else confirm that their bonus disc is *not* HDCD encoded? I have a player that tells me when it detects HDCD and it does not see it here. I have written to Dead.net and whoever answers their email didn't seem to understand the question. A post I made in the Dead.net community forums likewise went ignored while people reminisced about everything else under the sun. The three discs from the main release definitely have HDCD encoding but *my* bonus disc definitely does not. Anyone else? -
Where is the BAOI information for the bonus disk? That was in the version that was merged in.

There needs to be two (2) listings/versions for this release: one as the three disc set by itself and one as the three disc set that also included/comes with the bonus disc (effectively making it a four disc set.)
