Forever Blue is most certainly worthy of a vinyl reissue. It's been twenty years. Don't sleep on this.

I’ve no idea why so many people out there refuse to it they like Chris Isaak, because there’s really nothing not to like. I will say that it was not until his entire catalog arrived on my doorstep for review that I finally nailed down Kind Of Blue as his most outstanding album, opening with “Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing,” a song that simmers like an old blues number, and had John Lee Hooker written it, with it’s Canned Heat “On The Road Again” rolling base line, we’d still be singing it’s phrases today.
There’s a sheer timelessness to Kind Of Blue with it’s atmospheric effects, clear vocals, and a thematic cohesiveness he never moves far from ... that being lost love, an uncertainty of relationships, and his inability to feel that he can ever let his betrayals lie quietly, buried under the carpet. Chris seems to almost treasure keeping these emotions close to his heart, after all, without identifying the person, Chris sets the mood for Forever Blue by publishing a rather pained letter he once wrote, as part of the liner notes. Though moody, make no mistake about it, there’s a lot of energy found between these grooves, with rougher more stabbing cascading arrangements and presentations that will leave you nearly exhausted. But fear not, Chris knows when you need to catch your breath, and comfortably slides in a ballad, a ballad that will stop your dancing, yet spark your mind to considering, “How cool would it have been if I’d said that ... ”
It’s been said that misery loves company, and when I’m feeling that love-lost misery, I love being in the company of Chris Isaak.
