Classic Old School Hardcore track, I think the "XXX Mix" just tips it for me on this 12", with its deep dark undertones & driving rhythm and is packed full of cleverly used samples, creating a monster of a track. Saying that the "Vitamin 'E' Mix" is a very close second. Plus there's plenty of other mixes to choose from.

Acen tunes were some of the first hardcore tracks I listened to on vinyl as a 14 year old. The mans tacks were amazing and still are, a pure genius of his time.

Wicked track, first heard this on Rave generation 2. A lot different to other rave tunes at the time, dark but accessible. Love the breakdown with the chime-type sounds , anyone know where these are from?

If one tune encapsulates the genius of Acen for me, then "Close Your Eyes (XXX Mix)" is the one. I have never come accross another hardcore track which appears to squeeze a whole "rave" into it's 7 minute running time.
With it's energetic start to warm you up. "Close Your Eyes (XXX Mix)" then builds up in intensity with mentasmic rave stabs, Jim Morrison/Public Enemy samples and rolling breakbeats (NWA's "Straight Out Of Compton"???). Then then the "rush" hits you near the end with these almost heavenly synths and exclamations of "ECSTACY!!!".
For a non-drug to feel such feelings of elation when hearing this track, just goes to show the sheer brilliance of Acen's compositions. Throwaway, rave-crap??? Not a chance!
