VINYL MEDIA GRADING/DESCRIPTIONS
I play grade all vinyl media on high-end audiophile equipment and provide grading on three dimensions
1) Visual Evaluation - How clean is the record? Are there visible scuffs or marks?
Clean = "Like New", "Pristine", "Unplayed"
Clean with Faint Scuffs/Marks = Scuffs or marks are barely visible. Can only be seen under bright light at a certain angle.
Clean with Light Scuffs/Marks = Scuffs or marks are visible under normal light, but not audible
2) Surface Noise and Tics - Are there noticeable surface noise or tics?
3) Audio Quality - A subjective evaluation of the overall audio quality of the recording, similar to Michael Fremer's "Sound Ratings".
Outstanding Audio Quality = roughly 10+ on Fremer's scale
Excellent Audio Quality = 9-10 on Fremer's scale
Very Good Audio Quality = 7-8 on Fremer's scale
No Mention of Audio Quality = only average or below average audio quality <7 on Fremer's scale
